Kenny Howard Camellia

The Alabama legislature named the Camellia the official state flower on August 26, 1959, replacing Goldenrod, which held the designation since 1927.

This cultivar was registered by the Auburn-Opelika Men’s Camellia Club in honor of Kenny Howard, who served as athletics trainer for the Auburn Tigers for over 40 years.

Check out the other camellia japonicas in the garden dedicated to Tom Corley, longtime faculty member and propagator of camellias.
